Erste Walpurgisnacht

music by 19th century German composer Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy
based on the poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

a contemporary re-interpretation towards more universal, multi-cultural understanding



commissioned by Toonkunst amateur choir Rotterdam, Netherlands

performed June 25th, 2011 in the Great Church / Laurentius Church Rotterdam
as final piece of the series Spoken en Schimmen (ghosts and apparitions)


conductor and artistic director: Maria van Nieukerken
mise-en-scène & choreography for choir, singers, and corps-de-ballet, soloist: Thomas Körtvélyessy
second soloist: Floor van Dongen


solo-singers:
Ella Rombouts (alto), Leon van Liere (tenor), Vincent Spoeltman (baritone)
re-orchestration for winds and brass, bowed bass, and percussion: Andreas N. Tarkmann
